In this section we want to address the main common questions that may come to your mind.
Q1. What is Smartsalo ra all about?
Originally Smartsalo was created during summer 2015 as a brand used in marketing of about 800 people who were looking for new challenges after Microsoft was closing the Salo site. In December 2015 Smartsalo was established as an officially registered association and the activities were broadened to cover the whole southwest Finland area and also other then ex-Nokia/Microsoft employees.
Q2. What is the mission of Smartsalo ra?
Our mission is to watch the common interests of our members in the work environment as well as in the whole society. We also want to support entrepreneurship, support the re-employment of our members as well as support the physical and mental wellbeing of the members. Our target is to make companies aware and interested in the expertise areas of our members, and thus as many as possible would get employed in either existing companies or in the new start-ups.
Q3. Who are the people Smartsalo ra is representing, i.e. who can join as a member?
Basically a member can be anyone who accepts the rules of the association and pays the membership fee. In practice our members are IT professionals living in southwest Finland area and who have strong history and experience of working in an IT company.
Q4. How is Smartsalo ra linked with Microsoft?
Smartsalo brand was originally managed by a group of volunteers who were operating in close collaboration with Microsoft’s official Transition Program, but after the registered association was established, we represent much broader group of people. Thus Smartsalo ra does not represent Microsoft or Microsoft's view in any way. Instead Smartsalo ra is operating as a totally independent registered association.
Q5. What kind of future plans does Smartsalo ra have?
Current focus is purely on getting as many people as possible employed. We also want to welcome to Smartsalo ra the former Microsoft Salo based IT experts who are to become unemployed now after MMO is closing its product development activities in Espoo. Smartsalo ra is also working very closely with Salo city regarding the establishment plans of the 'Osaamiskeskus' IoT center. The future activities of the association will be evaluated closely after this operation period 2016 is ending and the plans for 2017 are to be made.
